Planning a vacation to Malaysia, especially Kuala Lumpur? Besides choosing the best attractions to visit, one of the most important things is finding a comfortable, well-located, and budget-friendly place to stay. Malaysia offers a wide range of accommodation options, from modern city hotels to cozy stays perfect for families and solo travelers.
In this article, I’ll share three accommodation recommendations in Malaysia that helped make my 3-week journey more comfortable, affordable, and enjoyable. Let’s start exploring! ✨
1. Pacific Express Hotel Chinatown
Pacific Express Hotel Chinatown is a great choice, especially if this is your first time visiting Kuala Lumpur. Located right in the heart of Chinatown, everything is within walking distance—from street food and local shops to cultural spots and lively night scenes. There’s also a 7-Eleven right next to the hotel, making it super convenient to grab drinks, snacks, or daily essentials anytime.
Staying in Chinatown is a fun experience, especially for first-time visitors. However, travelers should be mindful as many food options in this area are non-halal. The good news is the price is very affordable, starting from around IDR 300,000 per night when booking via Traveloka. If you’re looking for a strategic, comfortable, and budget-friendly hotel in Kuala Lumpur, this one is definitely worth considering.
2. ARK Staycation Home – Cheras
ARK Staycation Home in Cheras made my first stay in Kuala Lumpur even more exciting and comfortable. The location is incredibly strategic, just a few steps from Cheras LRT Station, so getting around the city is easy and hassle-free. Nearby, you’ll find KK Mart and 7-Eleven, plus plenty of halal food options at affordable prices. My personal favorite was Restaurant Azzahra — generous portions, delicious food, and friendly prices.
With prices starting from around IDR 150,000 per night, this place offers excellent value for money. The facilities are complete, and the atmosphere feels warm and homey since many areas are shared with other guests. One of the best parts is the common space, where you can meet travelers from different countries and exchange stories. It truly feels like a cultural experience without even leaving the accommodation.
3. Wangsa Maju Housing (Long-Stay Apartment)
If you’re planning to stay in Kuala Lumpur for more than three weeks, Wangsa Maju Housing is a very reasonable choice in terms of budget. With a monthly rental of around RM 450, you’ll get a spacious four-story apartment — I personally stayed on the fourth floor.
The facilities are quite complete for a long-term stay, including three bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen, and a family room. The temperature is cooler at night since the area is slightly elevated, making it comfortable for sleeping and relaxing after a long day.
However, staying in Wangsa Maju requires some extra walking. The distance to the nearest bus stop or Wangsa Maju MRT station is quite far, and most food spots are also located outside the residential complex. But if you enjoy walking and exploring local neighborhoods, this can be a fun way to experience daily life like a local. Overall, it’s a great option for travelers who want a long-term stay in Kuala Lumpur on a budget.
Final Thoughts

- Pacific Express Hotel Chinatown is perfect for travelers who love lively areas, easy food access, and walkable attractions.
- ARK Staycation Home Cheras is ideal if you’re looking for a warm, affordable, and home-like atmosphere.
- Wangsa Maju Housing suits long-term travelers who want to live like locals and save on accommodation costs, as long as you’re okay with lots of walking.
