Absolutely! Just like you can enjoy Kerak Telor in Bandung, you can also savor Palembang’s signature dish, Pempek, in Bandar Lampung. This is because Bandar Lampung is relatively close to Palembang, making it easy for Pempek producers to distribute their products to the neighboring city. Whether you’re a local resident or a traveler, it’s now possible to enjoy this iconic Palembang delicacy without having to go far.
Visiting Lampung doesn’t mean you have to miss out on culinary delights from other cities. In fact, while in Bandar Lampung, I had the chance to enjoy one of Palembang’s most legendary dishes: Pempek. What made the experience even more special was that it came as a local recommendation. A friend of mine, who is a native of Lampung, suggested we stop by one of the city’s well-known Pempek spots, Pempek Tenda Biru, for an authentic taste.

Pempek Tenda Biru actually has several branches across Bandar Lampung. This time, I decided to visit the branch located in Way Halim. At first, I assumed it would offer only the typical Pempek dishes, like most other Pempek restaurants. However, upon arriving, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the menu was far more diverse than I had imagined, offering a variety of flavors and options to satisfy every taste.
In addition to a variety of Pempek types, such as Pempek Kapal Selam, Lenjer, and Adaan, Pempek Tenda Biru also offers other classic Palembang dishes, including Tekwan, Celimpungan, and several other fish based specialties. For those who want to bring a taste of Palembang home, the restaurant also provides frozen Pempek, allowing you to cook it yourself without worrying about losing its authentic flavor.
When it comes to taste, the Pempek here is highly satisfying. The texture is chewy, the fish flavor is strong, and the cuko sauce perfectly balances sweet, sour, and spicy notes. It’s no wonder this place is frequently recommended by locals and tourists alike who are hunting for authentic Palembang cuisine in Bandar Lampung.
Here’s a small tip if you plan to visit the Way Halim branch: try not to come too late. Stocks of Pempek tend to run low at night, and the access road to the location is quite dark and quiet. The route is winding, and honestly, even Google Maps wasn’t very helpful when I visited. Without a local companion, I might have gotten lost.
All in all, Pempek Tenda Biru Way Halim is an excellent choice for enjoying delicious Pempek in Bandar Lampung without having to travel all the way to Palembang. Even though I bought my Pempek to take home, the restaurant itself is clean, well-organized, and comfortable. The parking area is spacious, hand washing facilities are available, and there are tables suitable for individuals or groups, perfect for visiting with family or friends.
From a price perspective, the menu at Pempek Tenda Biru is quite affordable. With prices starting around IDR 20,000, you can enjoy a full portion of Pempek or other classic Palembang dishes. The combination of taste, comfort, and reasonable pricing makes it a must visit spot for anyone looking to enjoy Palembang cuisine in Lampung.
